WHILE New York, London, Paris and Milan (The Big Four) are all full speed ahead with Spring/Summer 2012, we are all begrudgingly packing away our summer frocks, flirty sandals and bidding our pedicured toes farewell for the winter.

The hottest trends and that must-have gilet are all but a faded memory – most of us can’t even remember what we had for dinner last night let alone what happened on a distant catwalk six months ago. There have been two royal weddings, riots, earthquakes, hurricanes, the fall of evil dictators and plenty of other distractions since then for fashions sake. That’s why the Harvey Nichols fashion show is always a refreshing change of pace. Not only is it one of the best nights out in Manchester, it also serves as a refresher course in what you should be wearing – and buying – right now.

In all its Victorian gothic glory, Manchester’s Town Hall played host to last night’s big event. And it was indeed the perfect backdrop for the show’s Enchanted Forest theme. While television personality Elaine Willcox hosted the runway presentation, there were quite a few well-known faces carefully positioned throughout the crowd – but we would never mention any names (Emily Jagielka, Leanne Brown, John Thomson and his wife Sam, Jane Given, Stacey Giggs, Trisha Penrose and Jennie McAlpine).

Trends ran the gamut stretching from classic (Polo Ralph Lauren) and clean cut (Paul Smith) to gothic glamour (Galliano) and fetish dressing (Alexander McQueen). And for those days when nothing in your closet seems to feel right, no need to fret – the androgynous look is spot on-trend and gives you the perfect excuse to raid your boyfriend’s closet. With Roland Mouret, Nicole Farhi and Balenciaga leading the way, you are sure to be the epitome of style, not slump.

If you are a traditionalist and prefer to ease into autumn with rich tones – think deep burgundies, cider orange and plum – and cosy fabrics is more your style, you are going to be a very happy fashionista this season. You’ll be revelling in denim, corduroy and patterns galore. Prefer Converse to heels and sweatshirts to plunging necklines? Then Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci have just the outfit for you.And well, what would winter be without a little après ski? Our much-loved Moncler hats, D&G snoods and John Smedley jumpers have taken on the season’s brightest hues and turned our chunky knits and winter footwear into showstoppers. They are sure to breathe life into even the dullest of post-slope soirées (does even such a thing exist?).

After the barrage of eye-popping trends, drool-worthy accessories and gorgeous models subsided, most of the crowd headed back to Harvey Nichols – champagne in hand – to snap up a few of the hottest looks for themselves. After parties in fabulous department stores with champagne and credit card in hand are surely the wave of the future. Glamour with a bit of (financial) danger: we likey.Admittedly, we spent all morning working our hair into those über sleek buns and recreating the Laura Mercier eye (don’t be shy, we know you were doing the same) all the while still foot tapping to DJ Xander’s set and trying not to wallow in the fact that we’ve got another six months until this little shindig happens again. Oh well, you know what they say – good things come to those who wait.

So because the folk-slavic look is such an obvious trend in the London Fashion Week shows I figure Red Scare would be derelict in its duty not to cover it. Also I’m hoping that a designer might get word of this serious and respected coverage and send me some free stuff (after all it is one of my life’s ambitions to become a “top blagger” a la Amanda Harrington). So on that note pictured above are some snaps from the Temperley London FW 2012 show. Now I have to say that even if I wasn’t trying to score that Anastasia-esque cream gown and that black cape this collection is pretty stunning. Usually Alice Temperley is quite boho but this takes it to a whole new daughter-of-an-oligarch level. This collection is so referential to so many aspects of Imperial Russia from Winter Palace opulence to Cossack warrior that I feel Miss Temperley MUST have been reading Red Scare as inspiration. So Alice are you listening? You can send over that black caplet and hat anytime now.

This Russian trend is so hot even Kate Middleton’s favorite designer Issa started showing Siberian-chic. Does this mean that K-Middy herself might soon open a children’s hospital or wave from her carriage wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with matryoshka dolls!?!?! Well we can dream. Issa FW 2012 takes inspiration from a Siberian train journey from Moscow to Beijing (side note: I am actually taking this trip in the Spring of 2013 with Ready Set Jet Blog so watch out for those photos/international diplomatic crises). I love this collection: especially the babushka chic headscarves and that St. Basil’s onion dome jade chinoiserie print trimmed with ermine dresses (woah did I just type that?) Anyway so Issa if you’re reading (and really why wouldn’t you be? its not like you have anything better to do) feel free to send over some scarves and dresses or like hook me up with K-Middy because I really feel we are destined to be best friends…

J.W. ANDERSON // I’m kind of dying right now. a collection that consists of 1980s punk vibes, awkwardness, pin-stripes, white on white, padded clothing, lots of leather, mix/match patterns, patent leather skirts with an exposed slit, sky-high platform creepers is beyond dreamy. if I could afford it, I’d probably wear the whole collection.

daynaface:

ALTUZARRA // for this collection, Joesph Altuzarra was inspired by Corto Maltese, an adult French comic from the 1960s and 1970s who had a mother as a gypsy, an occupation as a sailor, and a father who was Venetian which really showed throughout the collection — military vibes, fur peacoats, printed flared trousers, knee-high boots, frugs, and beautiful velvet blazers.

Now THIS is Glamour!

What’s that sound you hear? Why its the sound of Oscar de la Renta, Karl Lagerfeld and Calvin Klein hanging up their hats and firing all their employees because they have nothing left to contribute. That’s right. They can all go home because this week in Ukraine the World Fashion Awards Show was held and it was haute couture, elegance and glamour epitomized. English Russia posted a bunch of pics from this classy event and my eyeballs nearly seized from taking in so much unbelievable high fashion. This show took place at the curiously named Radisson Royal Moscow Hotel located in Ukraine and featured “celebrities, glamourous girls, expensive dresses and accessories, Rolls Royces, Ferrari and an armored S600 at the entrance”. Sounds like my kind of party! Anyway head over to English Russia to peruse all the glamour, sheer bodices, and bedazzled platforms, but below I have posted a few of my favorite looks. Watch for these looks to make an appearance on Lindsay Lohan and Courtney Stodden soon!

Today’s trends

prexielott:

Okay, let’s start with what the most people are wearing for this season.

A lot of hues, neons and colors.

Don’t be afraid to mix different colors. Even though they are not of the same family color, you can still match them together like what Flavia did. (Visit her blog http://fashioncoolture.com.br/). She mixes color pink and orange together and still looks gorgeous. Oh dba Bonggels lang ang peg niya.

Next one is the scuba look.

oh dba para ka lang nag scu-scuba diving pero may touch of fashion. Bonggels rin. Look at what Camille’s wearing. Like going to the beach pero Mahal ang look niya. with neon colors din siya. This is her blog if you want to know more about her http://itscamilleco.com/2012/05/blue-orange/. She’s one of my style icon :>

Bumalik na trend ay ang mga Peplums. :>

nakita ko si Kristen Wiig sa season ender ng SNL at nagsuot ng Peplum ang Lola nyo. Betsy Sayson ko ang look nya. haha. This is the only photo that has the clearer view of her look. Also Camille Co, January Jones, Emma Roberts, kapatid ni Beyonce ay inavail rin nila ang look nato. :>

I think this is all for today. :>

We are not forced to take these trends and follow them since we all have different tastes and standards. Remember that there are no rules in fashion. So wear clothes you feel comfortable in and make it dashing. I believe each one of us can make a trend. Believe in yourself. Fashion is not about keeping up with the trends instead it is setting out the trends.
